About Mobile Pet Groomers

A small team with a genuine commitment to animal welfare and professional, unhurried grooming.

Grooming that began with a different idea

Mobile Pet Groomers was founded in 2013 by Sarah Clarke, after more than a decade working in traditional grooming salons. Sarah had noticed something consistently: the dogs that arrived most stressed were not poorly behaved — they were simply overwhelmed by the experience of being taken somewhere unfamiliar, surrounded by other anxious animals, and left to wait.

The idea of mobile grooming was not entirely new, but the approach she wanted to take was. Rather than a faster, more convenient version of the salon, she wanted to offer something fundamentally different: a one-to-one session where the animal was never hurried, never caged between stages, and never groomed by someone who did not know them.

That original philosophy remains at the heart of everything we do. The team has grown since those early days, but the principles have not changed.

Our values

🐾
Animal welfare first
Every decision we make — from equipment choices to session pacing — is guided by what is best for the animal on the table. If a pet is genuinely too distressed to continue, we stop. A stressed pet is not a session we can be proud of.
🤝
Honest communication
We tell owners what we actually find — not what we think they want to hear. If we notice something concerning during a session, we share it honestly. If a service is not appropriate for their pet, we say so rather than take the booking.
📚
Continuous learning
Grooming techniques, products, and understanding of animal behaviour continue to develop. We invest in ongoing training and professional development for all team members, not just at the beginning of their careers.
🌿
Considered product use
We choose shampoos, conditioners, and finishing products thoughtfully — selecting those appropriate for the individual animal's coat and skin rather than defaulting to a single product for every pet.
No rushing
We schedule enough time for each appointment to be done properly and calmly. We would rather take longer and do it right than hurry through and cause unnecessary stress to an animal.
🔍
Transparency about limitations
We are groomers, not veterinarians. We will share observations honestly and always recommend a vet visit if something looks like it needs professional medical attention. We do not treat health conditions or offer veterinary advice.

How we got here

2011
Sarah's salon career begins
Sarah starts working in a busy grooming salon in Cannock, eventually becoming senior groomer and developing a particular specialism in anxious and elderly dogs.
2013
Mobile Pet Groomers is founded
Sarah invests in her first purpose-fitted grooming van and begins serving clients in Rugeley and the surrounding area, building a small but loyal customer base through word of mouth.
2016
Emma joins the team
Demand grows enough to bring on Emma Hart as a second fully qualified groomer, expanding both capacity and the range of animals — particularly cats — that we are able to serve.
2019
Senior pet grooming service added
Recognising the distinct needs of older animals, we introduce a dedicated senior grooming service and update our training accordingly, with a focus on pain-aware handling and paced sessions.
2022
Tom joins as grooming assistant
Tom brings additional capacity for handling, scheduling, and larger-breed appointments, enabling us to serve more clients across a wider geographic area.
2026
Continuing to serve Staffordshire
With over 4,800 grooming sessions completed and a strong base of returning clients, we continue to operate with the same values and approach that have always defined the business.

Grooming is not just about appearance. It is about the animal.

A well-groomed pet is a comfortable one — free from matting that pulls the skin, nails that alter their gait, and coats that trap dirt and moisture. The aesthetic result of a good groom matters, but the functional result matters more.

We do not believe in forcing an animal through discomfort to hit a schedule. We do not believe in restraining a genuinely distressed pet to finish a trim. And we do not believe that any grooming result is worth an animal associating the experience with fear.
